Kedron is a residential suburb located in the north of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is situated on Gympie Road, immediately north of the suburbs of Lutwyche and Gordon Park, and is separated from Kedron Brook by Gordon Park. Kedron Brook, a significant watercourse with its headwaters in Ferny Grove, flows through the suburb and enters a wetland at Toombul near the airport.
The suburb takes its name from the Biblical Kedron River, and was originally part of a farm estate owned by Judge Alfred Lutwyche, who named his estate Kedron Lodge. The area was mainly rural, with scattered population, and was known for its tanneries and other industries along Kedron Brook. The opening of the Kedron Park Hotel in 1880 brought some life to the district, and the hotel’s proprietor started horse races, polo matches, and other sports events on Kedron Park.
In the early 20th century, Kedron began to develop into a more densely populated suburb, with the construction of early postwar-style homes. In more recent years, units and apartments have been built in the area, making Kedron an attractive option for those looking for a suburban lifestyle with easy access to the city. Today, Kedron is a vibrant and diverse community with a range of amenities and facilities to support its residents’ needs and interests.
