More About Chermside West

Primarily a residential suburb approximately 10km north of Brisbane CBD, Chermside West, originally referred to as Craigslea, is a suburb that began from development in the 1950’s as the first of several housing estates in the area opened up. The area gained a further boost to popularity when the Chermside West (Craigslea) Primary School open in 1972, alleviating pressure from nearby institutions.

A planned estate, Chermside West has retained approximately one third of land area for the use of open space and incorporates numerous local reserves including Huxtable Park and Raven Street Reserve which are set upon the banks of Downfall Creek.

Boosted by continued urban growth and development of the Gympie Road area and nearby Aspley, Chermside was selected as the site of Australia’s first drive in shopping mall, Westfield Chermside, which not only put Chermside on the metropolitan map but changed the course of Suburban life in Australia fuelling the suburbanisation boom that boosted the development of numerous outlying suburbs Australia wide.

Today, Chermside West, remains a popular choice with a wide variety of residents looking for a Suburban lifestyle on the doorstep of Brisbane’s CBD.
