More About Deagon

Located approximately 16km north of Brisbane CBD, along the northern banks of Cabbage Tree Creek, Deagon is a residential suburb named after William Deagon, the Mayor of neighbouring Sandgate, in the 1880’s. Situated along the Sandgate Railway Line which opened in 1882, Deagon was selected by the residents of Sandgate as the site of a local racecourse which, with the assistance of Melbourne Racing Entrepreneur John Wren, opened in 1912.

Development first began in Deagon at the beginning of the 20th Century with the first housing estate opening in approximately 1908 however development in the area remained slow and many houses were not built until after the end of the 1st World War. With a steady growth in population since the 1940’s, Deagon has seen steady progress in the commercial development of the area whilst retaining the suburbs quintessential suburban charm. Offering an affordable alternative to neighbouring Sandgate, without sacrificing the convenience of coastal living, Deagon has remained an attractive and popular choice.
