Located in the western suburbs of the Gold Coast and bordering the M1 Pacific Motorway, Highland Park is a family-friendly commuter suburb that originally formed the southern part of the Nerang Housing Estate. Officially recognised as its own suburb in 2003, Highland Park has been home to the William Duncan State School since the schools official opening in 1987. Named after William Duncan, an early settler and timber getter in the district, the William Duncan State School caters for both primary and special education with secondary education catered for in neighbouring Nerang. Being a relatively young suburb Highland Park consists primarily of detached housing with some limited semi-detached and unit style living. Highland Park is also home to Garden Crest Manors Residential Resort, an expansive over 50’s gated community in the area.
