More About Alderley

Alderley is a residential suburb, 6km north of Central Brisbane. Located on the Ferny Grove Railway live (established in 1899), Alderley is an elevated suburb adjoining the southern side of Kedron Brook and the northern side of Enoggera Creek.

Believed to have been named after Alderley Edge in Cheshire England, Alderley is one of Brisbane’s older suburbs and was initially used as farmland by early settlers including the notable Raymont Family who established Brisbane’s first vineyard in the 1860’s.

The Raymont family continued to contribute to the development of the suburb by establishing a post office in 1868, a general store, and in the 1920’s, the suburbs first petrol station. With the first major residential subdivision being offered for sale in 1890, Alderley is home to a number of heritage listed sites including the Newmarket Brickworks Chimney, Farrington House and Stathearn.

Generous subdivision and pockets of parkland and green space give Alderley a relaxed and spacious atmosphere with the convenience of being close to Brisbane CBD, generous amenities and a wide variety of transport links.
