A residential suburb located approximately 15kms north-west of Brisbane’s CBD, Ferny Grove is popular among its residents for its peaceful, leafy and quiet atmosphere and convenient commuter access to the CBD.
Situated in a hilly district that encompasses the Brisbane State Forest and Enoggera Reservoir, Ferny Grove was originally settled for the purpose of farming, fruit growing and dairying with subsequent development occurring in the mid 1870’s with the opening of a local primary school.
Separated from the Brisbane CBD by the Enoggera Military Camp, Ferny Grove was finally connected to the CBD by train in 1919 which aided in a steady increase in interest and development in the area. The 1950’s and 1960’s earmarked the beginning of suburbanisation in the area with the opening of the Ferny Hills estate to meet demand for residential land which lasted until well into the mid 1990’s.
