Providing a lush, green lifestyle on the doorstep of the city, Chapel Hill is a residential suburb of Brisbane approximately 9km from the CBD and nestled at the base of Mount Coot-Tha.
Chapel Hill is divided by three main streams which descent through the suburb, the gullies of which served as places for timber cutting and dairying from the 1860s. In the 1870’s the local farming community from the nearest settlement of Indooroopilly opened a small, primitive Methodist church on Moggill Road and it was this chapel that gave the suburb its name.
It wasn’t until the 1950’s that residential development began in the area with a peak interest in the area in the 1970s leading to a unique architectural style that interacted with the retained greenery, natural bush and sloping structure of the suburb making it distinguishable from other areas in Brisbane. The first school, Chapel Hill State School, opened in the area in 1978 and the suburb has remained predominantly a residential suburb with much of the commercial and retail activities taking place in adjacent areas.
Since the suburb’s inception in the 1950s, Chapel Hill has proven to be a highly popular, family friendly suburb known for its tranquility, lush greenery and close proximity to the city.
