Nestled between the Nerang River and Nerang-Southport Road, Ashmore is a sprawling, family-friendly northern Gold Coast suburb established in the 1970s. Originally an area of dense lowland Eucalyptus forest, Sydney property investor Jim Donellon recognised the suburb’s potential and began development of the Ashmore Village housing estate and subsequent retail areas in 1976. Officially recognised as ‘Ashmore’ in 1982, Ashmore consists primarily of detached housing and townhouse style developments with the suburbs proximity to Southport, Surfers Paradise and all of the world-class attractions on offer on the Gold Coast continuing to drive Ashmore’s popularity among those looking to call the Gold Coast home.

Nestled between the Nerang River and Nerang-Southport Road, Ashmore is a sprawling, family-friendly northern Gold Coast suburb dotted with numerous parks and green spaces. Originally subdivided and subsequently auctioned in 1887 by auctioneer James R. Dickson, Ashmore and neighbouring Benowa remained primarily an undeveloped area of dense, lowland Eucalyptus forest with limited agricultural intervention until 1976 when Sydney based property investor, Jim Donellon, recognised the suburb’s potential and spear headed the development of Ashmore Village housing estate. Following the model of suburban expansion, the introduction of Ashmore Village housing estate soon also saw the introduction and development of the Ashmore Plaza shopping centre and surrounding retail district to address new consumer demand in the area. Officially recognised as the suburb of ‘Ashmore’ in 1982, the name is believed to have derived from a family estate located in the United Kingdom. With much of the development of the suburb occurring during the 1970’s through to the 1980’s, Ashmore consists primarily of detached housing and low density townhouse and retirement home style development with much of the commercial development centred along Nerang-Southport Road. Ashmore’s close proximity to the numerous attractions of the Gold Coast including the world famous Surfers Paradise has seen the suburbs popularity continued to grow.
