More About Banyo
Banyo, a North Eastern suburb of Brisbane, is a mixed residential and industrial area located approximately 12km from the CBD. Home to the Turrbal people, and originally known as Clapham Junction, Banyo is named from the Indigenous Australian word for hill or ridge. Originally settled in the mid 1800’s, Banyo is a suburb that has witnessed continued development and expansion due to the suburbs proximity to the Brisbane Domestic and International Airport and link to the Brisbane metropolitan areas by the North Coast railway line.
In 1942 Banyo was recognised as a suitable location by the American Army to build a substantial depot along Earnshaw Road and was also identified as a suitable area to begin development for a variety of commercial manufacturing and processing activities such as the Hills Hoist Factory and the Golden Circle Cannery.
In recent years the benefit of Banyo’s proximity to the airport, the Port of Brisbane and major arterial roads and motorways has contributed to the suburbs continued development as a commercial hub whilst former commercial sites have continued to be re-developed to meet growing residential demand.
