More About The Gold Coast

Spread out over an area of 1400 square kilometres, the city itself extends from Beenleigh through to Coolangatta, encompassing South Stradbroke Island, a section of Moreton Bay and ending just past the Lamington and Darlington Ranges.

Dubbed the ‘Gold Coast’ in the 1950s, an unprecedented tourist boom in the area now recognised as Surfers Paradise saw the phrase come to literally embody the opportunities offered in the locale. A surge of development in the late fifties led to the subsequent division of a range of suburbs within the city and the area in its entirety officially retained the name of the Gold Coast. The amalgamation of a number of smaller local councils in 1994 saw the Gold Coast City form a strong and recognisably influential local authority. Although this region was subsequently split into 14 separate divisions – most recognisably divided by suburbs, the area itself falls under the one local authority and has grown from strength to strength in the last decade. A series of public works and projects over recent years has seen a shift in focus from a tourist mecca to an increasingly attractive residential hot spot. The Gold Coast is also home to 3 large theme parks – Dreamworld, Warner Bros Movie World and Sea World. These theme parks continue to draw major tourist crowds at all times of the year.

The Gold Coast, although significantly more developed since the coining of its namesake, is still synonymous with sandy beaches, great surf and rolling hinterlands. A thriving metropolis, the Gold Coast offers residents and holiday makers the best of both worlds – a busy, vibrant lifestyle in popular areas such as Surfers Paradise and entertainment focused precincts such as Broadbeach, or the secluded and relaxed lifestyle of Burleigh Waters and Coomera. The largest non-capitalized city in Australia, the Gold Coast will continue to present a bevy of opportunities for home owners and investors alike.
