Communication to tenants – 15 April 2020

Thank you for your patience during these times as we try to work through each individual tenant and owner needs.

We will continue to provide updates to both owners and tenants as information is received from the Government. We have also included a section on our website “COVID-19” tab with our communications and approach during these challenging times.

On Thursday 9 April, the Minister for Housing and Public Works, Mick De Brenni, provided some proposed measures regarding residential tenancies, the full statement can be viewed here.

Freeze on Evictions
As previously advised, there is a freeze on evictions due to rent arrears for Queensland tenants impacted by COVID-19. This is a retrospective freeze, as of Sunday 29 March 2020.

Financial Hardship
For the tenants who have communicated with our office regarding their hardship circumstances, please complete our hardship application form. Please be patient with our Team as we assess each individual situation. Owners are also in similar financial positions so we need to achieve a mutual outcome for all parties.

You may also like to contact Centrelink and the RTA to explore your eligibility for other financial assistance.

Rental Grant
The Rental Grant which is a grant of up to 4 weeks rent (max $2,000) has been introduced for tenants experiencing hardship who are ineligible to receive any other financial assistance. There is a strict criteria for accessing the rental grant which can be viewed here.

Property Inspections
Our Agency is finalising a process for conducting routine inspections using a different format which we will provide further details about in the coming weeks.

COVID-19 Government Website – The Hub
The Government has formulated a website regarding residential tenancies which can be viewed here. This website has FAQ and details for both tenants, landlords and Property Managers.

Working as a Team
Our highest priority is the health and wellbeing of our communities.

We will provide additional information when we have further direction from the Government once legislation has been passed. We look forward to working together to support you through this time.

Regards
